Chuck LANGILLE

PICTOU – Charles Alfred “Chuck” Langille, age 96, passed away October 7, 2014, just three days short of his 97th birthday, in the Northumberland Veteran’s Unit, Sutherland-Harris Memorial Hospital, Pictou.
Born in Pictou, he was a son of the late Alfred and Rhoda (Hemmings) Langille.
A veteran of the Second World War, Chuck served in the Army, stationed in Newfoundland and Labrador. After the war he attended the Nova Scotia Agricultural College studying gardening and animal husbandry. He worked as a baker at the Hamilton Biscuit Factory, as a coal miner, and in the plate shop at the shipyard, Ferguson Industries. A member of Pictou United Church, and former caretaker, Chuck sang in the choir for over 50 years. He also sang in the Stellarton Male Chorus and took parts in the Rotary Club musical productions over the years. An avid gardener, both vegetables and flowers, Chuck also had a great affection for animals, and at one time kept and showed hens.
He is survived by step-daughter, Dianne Reynell, Pictou; dear friends, Russel and Jean Maclean and family, Maria, Gavin and Nicholas; sister-in-law, Helen Langille, Westville; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Beatrice Darroch and second wife, Winnifred (Moulton) Reynell. The last of his immediate family, he was also predeceased by sisters: Ena Webb, Mary MacDonald, Gladys Leadbetter and brother, Jack.
Sincere thanks to Dr. Burrill, Dr. Cooper, the nurses and all the staff of the Veteran’s Wing for the exceptional care given to Chuck over the years.
Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Friday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Saturday from Pictou United Church. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Northumberland Veteran’s Unit Comfort Fund.
