DESHARNAIS: Herman Ovide age 78 years of Ferland, SK passed away on October 3, 2014 at the Foyer D'Youville. The Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m. on October 10, 2014 from Notre Dame d'Auvergne Roman Catholic Church with Father Guy Amedee Ainemon officiating. The Interment Service was held in the Notre Dame Parish Cemetery. The organist was Louisa Lacasse, the soloist was Diane Lacasse, the urn bearer was Chris Moat, and the cross bearer was Solange Voskamp. Herman is survived by his sisters Valeda Ogenchuck, Gilberte (Ernie) Hasenclever Sr., and Simone Desharnais; brothers Martial (Joyce) Desharnais, and Raymond (Judy) Desharnais; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Alcide and Hosanna; brothers Normand, Rosaire, Gerard, and Fernand; brother-in-law Bill Ogenchuck; sister-in-law Bernadette Desharnais; nephew Michael Ogenchuck; niece Gisele Moat; and great nephew Kayden Ardell. Herman attended school at McPhay and Goveneur. He was employed in his younger years with Borger Construction as foreman for water and sewer installation. In 1963 his dream of owning farmland became a reality when he purchased his first piece of land at Summer Cove. He continued to work for Borger for several years after. In 1967 he moved permanently to the farm. Herman attended mass every week at St. Vean Baptiste parish in Ferland. His religion meant a great deal to him and was grateful for the bounties that God graced him. Herman's farmland and cattle were what meant the most to him. From sunup to sundown, Herman was out and about with his cattle or inspecting his machinery and land. Underneath the tough cowboy, the avid teaser and jokester was a man with a heart of gold. He was always ready to lend a hand if you needed. Herman enjoyed socializing, weather it was someone dropping in or out at a social gathering, especially if dancing was involved.
