It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Melvin Charles Head at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014.
Born in Sydney, Melvin was the son of the late Adam and Louise Head.
Melvin lived most of his life in Whitney Pier. He was an employee of Sydney Steel for 36 years. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Melvin is survived by his children, Susan (Chuck) Champion, Paul (Wendy), Janet, all of Sydney, and Gary, Moncton; three brothers, Walter, Bill and Carl; sister, Greta; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Melvin was predeceased by his wife, Doris, parents, sisters, Florence, Ann Caroline, Mary and Lillian, and brothers, Ralph, Earl and Clyde.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, at 11 a.m. with Major Kent Hepditch officiating. A private family burial will take place in Eastmount Cemetery, Whitney Pier, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Melvin may be made to Horizon Achievement Centre – Building Fund.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
