Meta Tanner

TANNER, META - Meta Tanner of Harvey Station, NB passed away October 14, 2014 at Wauklehegan Manor. Meta was born at St. Louis, Missouri in 1928, a daughter of the late Charles and Ida (Ratcliffe) Miner. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Borgon Tanner; her children, Martin Boyles, Harvey Station, NB and Meghaen Wallace, Halifax, NS and a sister, Nancy Readling, Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Meta was an Art Teacher in public schools for 20 years. She excelled in teaching Art to students at rural schools in Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Maryland. She was also the first formal Art Teacher on Cape Breton Island. During her nine years there she taught in both Victoria and Cape Breton County. Her last year of teaching Art took place at Milltown School, St. Stephen, NB. She and her husband had stalls at the Boyce Farmers Market for 16 years. Meta sold a variety of handcrafts of her own design and baked goods-especially her well-known Ginger-Bread Bears. Her multiple talents spanned many areas and years. Sincere praise goes to our family doctor of many years, Dr. John Beal and early work by surgeons Dr. Peters and Dr. Schaus. Praise is due also to the nurses at 4 NW (DECH) whose aid and devotion to Meta was outstanding. Special thanks go to the fine staff and wonderful nurses at Wauklehegan Manor at McAdam where Meta was a resident for five months. During that time she received unusual care and devotion from talented and dedicated individuals.
By family request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Arrangements by Flewelling Funeral Home, Nackawic, NB. www.flewellingswan.com
