Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Centre, St. John's on Thursday, October 16, 2014, John Whelan of Colliers - Age 81 years. Predeceased by his wife Theresa; daughter Catherine Deveaux; parents: Michael and Mary Alice; brother George; sister Madonna Critch; and brother-in-law Tim Lewis. Leaving to mourn his sons: Gerard (Gale), and Patrick (Leisa); grand-daughters: Katie Slade (Cory), Tessie Whelan (Jimmy), and Mary Jane Deveaux (Alex); great grand-daughter Paige Slade; sister Betty Lewis; special friend and companion Kay Penney; nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends. Resting at Flaherty's Memorial Funeral Home, Conception Harbour, Conception Bay Highway with visitation on Saturday, October 18, from 2pm-9pm and Sunday, October 19, from 2pm-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, October 20, 2014, at 10:30am from Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Colliers.
