It is with heartfelt sadness that we her family, announce the peaceful passing of a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Viola passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014 at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay on Aug. 23, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Viola (Shaw) Madore. Viola resided in Reserve Mines the latter part of her life and was a member of St. Joseph’s Church.
Viola enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends and she always kept in close contact and up to date with them through her frequent chats on the telephone.
Viola will be sadly missed by her loving children, daughter, Rolonda (Stephen) Thomas and their children, Alex, Sarah, Shamus and Wesley, all of Ontario; son, Rodney MacKenzie and his fiancée Michelle Locke, Glace Bay. sisters, Theresa (Tommy) Andrews and Mary Krewenki, both of Glace Bay; brother, Louie Madore, Sydney; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides her parents, Viola was predeceased by her husband, Fred Gilmet (Dec. 2008); sister, Edna Camelleri; brother, Jimmy Madore, both of Ontario and her grandmother, Annie Shaw, with whom Viola shared a very special bond.
In honouring Viola’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction and care of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiated by Fr. Leo Boone will be held Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014 at 2 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines, with interment in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Glace Bay. Following the mass, all are welcome to join with Viola’s family in the church hall for a light lunch and refreshments.
As an expression of sympathy for Viola, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Center or a charity of choice.
