NICHOLLS, MARGARET LOUISE - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother Margaret Louise (Smith) Nicholls, on October 20, 2014, at the Loch Lomond Village. Born in Saint John on September 14, 1928, she was the eldest daughter of the late Alfred and Gladys (Hodgin) Smith. Margaret was a great lover of the outdoors, and enjoyed spending time with family and walking her dog. Margaret worked as a coupon processor for Neilsons. In her later years she immersed herself in humanitarian work, as a member of the Jane Henderson Society at Portland United Church, and a volunteer at the Clothing Depot and North End Food Bank. Margaret was a lifetime member of Portland United Church. More recently, Margaret took advantage of the activities and social time offered at the Loch Lomond Village. She will be sadly missed by her children; John Nicholls (Cindy), Ruth MacLeod (Ted), Wayne Nicholls (Donna), Michael Nicholls and Rick Nicholls (Maureen Bernard); eleven grandchildren; Karen Dionne, Tara Thibault, Jill Cronk, Neil MacLeod, Luke Nicholls, Ethan Nicholls, Angela Nicholls, Nathan Nicholls, Jennifer Nicholls, John Devon Nicholls and Serenity Hymmen; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Viola Beamish and Alfred Smith of Sussex; a sister-in-law, Helen Conley; several nieces and one nephew; and many relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, John, Margaret was predeceased by her great-granddaughter Keeva MacLeod.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visiting on Thursday, October 23 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held on Friday, October 24, 2014, at 10:00 AM from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances made to the Animal Rescue League, Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
