GREENE

A Tribute To

DR. MARIAN GREENE

January 22, 1954 - November 7, 2013

If we all take a moment and let the childhood song "The Bear Went Over The Mountain" echo in our minds, we will remember that the bear only sees the other side of the mountain because he climbed it. Marian Greene understood this concept very well and the melody of this particular life's lesson runs through the pages of her writings, although unfinished. She hoped one day to see these bound.

She gave these the title "On The Other Side Of The Desk". Although this book is in Marian's perspective, we can say that the premise for the title came from her recent life experiences, and what she was hoping to
say to all those who sat with her during 32 years of practice.........I got it!!!!

Empathy was always Marian's strong point, yet she could blast Dr. Phil out of the water with her logic. She was smart, witty, abrupt & affectionate; never at a loss for words. Dr. Marian Greene was no different on either side of the desk. She would hug you in her office or in the mall. She owned who she was and we loved her for it. Her humour could easily leave one reeling and wondering if she actually said what one thought she said...She did!

Marian Greene liked to be first. The first to start singing "Scarlet Ribbons", the first to finish in scrabble; she was the first female from Placentia to become a doctor. In 1967, not yet a teenager, she wrote a letter to
Dr. Christiaan Barnard when he performed the world's first human heart transplant. Marian was always curious and forever asked a million questions about everything and that's why her parents Nick and Vera Greene are in Heaven........now with her.

And to Marian's friends: your love for her was so real and we have not missed all you have done. From donning swim caps to a steady supply of caramel logs and snowballs; from barley soups to walking the green mile, you took part of something in Marian's life that was unique to her and one day to all of us.

Thank you to our friends: you went "beyond the beyond" scope of friendship. What you did for us and how you did it has left our
eyes wide open.

Marian, as a mother you were our best. As a daughter you were loyal. As a sister you were our side-by-each. As a friend you were in it for life.

We will not let our grief hold you here, for we understand you have another first in your journey. A first step on a path that has been designed only for you and one that only you can begin. Our wish is that when we meet again you are exactly the same...and more, that you have at least learned how to bake cookies, that magic bags are extinct and that we all plan to come together time and time again...

Annette Gaskell, Olivia Roberts & Cathy Greene.
