Doris Minnie Bird

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Doris Minnie Bird (Wheaton) age 80 of Nappan on Monday, October 27, 2014 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan in the comfort of her family.
Born January 25, 1934 in Nappan, NS, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Louise (Gorveatt) Wheaton.
Doris was a faithful member of the Nappan United Church and sang in the choir for many years.
Playing the piano was a passion for her and in her younger years Doris, along with her brothers and father, entertained musically at country dances throughout the community. People will recall her playing the accordion for these events as well. There are many children who attended Jonathan McCully Elementary School who cherished her musical gift as she played the piano and accordion on a weekly basis.
Most recently her musical talent was enjoyed by her family, friends and the residents and staff at Gables Lodge and Centennial Villa.
Doris will be lovingly remembered by her children, Curtis, Nappan, Darlene Zelazo, Edmonton, AB, Tom (Cindy), Amherst and Sherman, Courtice, ON; niece, Joyce Wheaton, London, ON; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Doris was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was predeceased by her husband, Leland Bird; as well as by her 13 brother and sisters.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, October 31, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with funeral service on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Jean Ward officiating held at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906). Reception to follow in the Knights of Columbus hall.
