William Elmore "Bill" Gilroy
It is with deep sadness that we must announce the passing of William Elmore "Bill" Gilroy at the age of 101 years. Bill passed away peacefully at Gables Lodge, Amherst on Tuesday, October 28, 2014.
Born in West Linden, NS, he was a son of the late David and Rachel (Holmes) Gilroy.
Bill was a member of Immanuel United Church and a past Knights of Pythias. After working for Atlantic Wholesalers for 14 years, he worked for Tantramar Motors for 23 and a half years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He always enjoyed driving the back roads of Cumberland County and area.
He is survived by daughter Connie Lupton, Middleton, NS; sons Mel (Lonie), Amherst and Ronald (Margaret), Amherst; 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife Pauline (Stiles), the last surviving member of his immediate family, he was also predeceased by brothers Martin, Cecil, Charlie, Harold, Duncan, Stevely and sisters Maude Greeno, Bertha Slack and Blanch McArthur.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take place on Friday, October 31, 2014 from Noon until 2 pm followed immediately at 2 pm with the funeral service, Rev. Jean Ward officiating. Burial will take place in the Amherst Cemetery.
