We, the family are broken hearted to announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, John ‘Jack’ Russell Adams on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Springhill on April 24, 1931, Jack was the son of the late Edward and Florence (McGowan) Adams.
Jack moved to Boston with his family at the age of 15. He worked for many years at a major manufacturing company making large industrial wiring cable. In 1975 he returned to Canada with his family settling in Cape Breton. He worked at Westburne and then drove taxi in Sydney until retiring.
Besides being a good provider to his family, Jack was a fun guy and always made you feel welcomed in his home by offering you a cup of tea and something sweet to go with your drink. He loved the outdoors, for Jack was an avid fisherman and hunter. Jack did everything at his own pace, for he was not a man to be hurried, for he would be quite content to relax by reading a book or doing many wood projects. He loved making rocking horses for all the kids.
He returning to Boston to visit family and friends, and also to Florida to visit his sister. In 2007, he traveled to California to celebrate his 50th wedding anniversary with his soul mate, Shirley. Everyone who knew Jack knew that he was a diehard Boston Bruins, Patriots, and Red Sox fan, for he would wear all his Boston garments like a proud peacock for everyone to see. Jack will be truly missed by his family and friends for being so full of mischief because no one could tell a joke like him, and most of all, for being kind and gentle.
Jack leaves behind his loving wife, Shirley (Grant) Adams; children, John Adams, Sydney, Sandra (Seward) MacLean, Sydney and Walter Adams, Boxborough, Massachusetts, and his grandchildren, Nicholas, Sarah (Steve), Kelly, Jarrett and Lesley, who were his pride and joy. Jack is also survived by his sister, Nedda Heath, California; as well as many brothers-in-laws, sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Jack was predeceased by his sister, Eileen Fullerton, brothers-in-law, Gordon Fullerton, George Heath, Willard Grant and Roy Grant, sister-in-law, Shirley Grant and daughters-in-law, Heather Adams and Carole Anne Adams.
