DeWOLFE, MARY ELIZABETH - Mary E. DeWolfe (nee Wilmot) passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at the age of 89. She was the daughter of Viola Fraser (Blakeney) Wilmot and Robert Wilmot of Petitcodiac, NB. She was predeceased by her three sisters, Margery Knoke of Riverview, Mabelle Hughes of Woodstock, ON and Dorothy Carlson of Toronto and her brother, DeWitt “Brud” Blakeney of Pittsfield, Mass. Mary graduated from Mount Allison University in 1943. As a young career woman, she worked with a team at General Motors in Moncton, ensuring supply of parts for military vehicles being used in the WWII war effort and later with Canada Cement. Mary was active in the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Moncton Branch #6, the Telephone Pioneers, Order of The Eastern Star and the United Church Woman’s Group in Bathurst (1966-1977) and in Riverview (1977-present). She was a member of the Albert County Historical Society and was knowledgeable about the early history of the Moncton and Petitcodiac areas. She was a proud descendant from the United Empire Loyalist Wilmot family. She was a devoted wife and mother to her family and a doting grandmother. Mary highly valued education, especially for women, and was an avid reader of local historical events. She had a vast knowledge of and a keen eye for antiques. Christmas was her favorite time of the year, celebrating it with an energy and enthusiasm that inspired those around her. Throughout her life Mary loved dancing and well into her eighties attended the weekly dances at the Moncton Legion. She is survived by her family, husband, James DeWolfe of Riverview; son, Dr. Rob DeWolfe of Riverview; daughters, Anne DeWolfe of Vancouver, BC and Dr. Susan DeWolfe of Toronto, ON; grandsons, Mark and Alex Tomaszewicz of Vancouver, BC; niece, Mary-Jane Rogers of Kitchener, ON and Rick Tomaszewicz and Michael Haddad.
Visitation hours will be held at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. A service to Celebrate Mary’s Life will be held at St. Paul’s United Church (404 Cleveland Ave., Riverview) on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 11:00 am with Rev. Steve Berube and Rev. Dr. Andy O’Neill officiating. Reception following the service in the church hall. Interment to be held in Maplewood Cemetery, Petitcodiac.
