Emile Joseph Belliveau

Emile Joseph Belliveau, aged 91, of Amherst, Nova Scotia, died at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, after a brief illness. Born on November 4, 1923, in Boudreau Village, near Beaumont, Westmorland County, New Brunswick, he was the son and eldest child of the late William Belliveau and Mary (Auffrey) Belliveau.
In April 1940, at the age of 16, he joined his father in the employ of the auto body repair shop of Tantramar Motors in Amherst, where later in the 1940s they were joined by his brother Gerald and after, in the early 1950s, by his brother Lucien. All four became mainstays with Tantramar, to their retirements. Emile retired as body shop foreman on Christmas Eve 1987, after almost 48 years of faithful service.
He married his wife Florence, a native of Dorchester, New Brunswick, in 1943, they having celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary this past June 15th, with their family. Florence and Emile spent many happy years together doing all the things they loved to do—camping in their travel trailer; picking strawberries, blueberries and cranberries in season; playing cards; and, most importantly, visiting with family and attending family functions. To Florenceand Emile, their family was everything.
Emile was a faithful adherent of St Charles Churchwhich, in recent years, has become part of Holy Family Parish. Also, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and, perhaps, his most cherished possession was his Knights of Columbus ring. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and reading.
Besides his wife Florence, Emile is survived by four daughters, Anita (Glen) White, Ann, and Louise, all of Amherst, and Phyllis (Bill) Mills, of Truro, NS, two sons, Peter, of Amherst, and Paul (Michelle), of Bridgewater, NS. He is also survived by his sister Corinne Porter, of Amherst, son-in-law David Melanson, of Trenton, Ontario, fifteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, many special nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Doris Duguay, of Saint John, NB, and brothers-in-law Fred Leblanc, of Florida, USA, and Francis LeBlanc, of Connecticut, USA.
He was predeceased by a daughter in infancy in 1948, by a son Joseph in infancy in 1955, and by his daughter Irene (David) Melanson in 2000. Also, he was predeceased by his brothers Gerald, Lucien and Paul; his sisters-in-law Beatrice LeBlanc, Edna Belliveau, Florence Belliveau, and Phyllis Belliveau; and brothers-in-law Abbey Duguay, Leo LeBlanc, and Camille LeBlanc.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 23rd, from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM, with parish prayers at 8:30 pm, all in Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst, NS, Telephone (902)667-8777.
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 25, 2014, at 10 am from Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Amherst, NS, with Father Vernon Driscoll officiating. Interment will be in St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery, Amherst.
