It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Agnes Petrie, 92, of New Waterford on Nov. 23, 2014 at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Ellen McDougall.
Agnes was a woman of great faith and was a choir member at the former St. Agnes parish. She was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 15, Ladies Auxiliary in New Waterford. She loved skating, playing cards and a good game of darts. Her summer hobby was taking a car load of children from the neighborhood, including her own, to spend the day swimming at Sangaree. During the early part of the war years she, along with some friends, volunteered to work in a munitions factory in Ontario.
Surviving are her husband of 73 years, Joe, whom she affectionately referred to as her 'Hero' and he to her as his 'Pussycat'; sons, whom she loved dearly, Francis, Joseph and David; one grandchild, Ian.
Besides her mother, Agnes was predeceased by one son, Ronnie.
Visitation will be held today (Tuesday, Nov. 25) from 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration for Agnes will take place Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard's Parish Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford. The Knights of Columbus will assemble for at prayer service at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
