HARTERY, MARY GENEVIEVE (NEE CHASE) - After a courageous battle with cancer, Mary was finally called to God on November 26th, 2014 in Ottawa, Ontario. Mary was born in Saint John, New Brunswick on May 4th, 1956. She had a calling to the Girl Guides and inspired young minds as a volunteer Instructor from 1970 until 1980. She was active in the Naval Reserves from 1974 until 1980 in Saint John New Brunswick. After graduating from high school, Mary went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree, graduating with honours from the University of New Brunswick in 1981, majoring in Geology and Chemistry. Her passion was Geology so in 1981 she began working as a staff geologist for companies specializing in uranium exploration. It was there that, while venturing through the bush in Northern Saskatchewan, she would meet Dolan Hartery, who in 1984 would become her husband. In 1987 they moved to Ottawa where she began another career as a consultant. She loved the outdoors, canoe trips and camping. Her laughter was contagious and she always enjoyed seeing other people happy. You could expect any encounter with her to begin with a smile and a hug. Mary is survived by Dolan, her best friend and husband of 30 years. She will be greatly missed by her mother Phyllis Chase (Day), brothers Walter James Chase (Irene), James Aisaican-Chase (Phyllis deceased and second wife Anngyllal), and her huge extended family of relatives and friends.
