It is with saddened hearts that the family of Angus Fraser MacKenzie announce his passing at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, following complications from major surgery.
He was the youngest son of the late J. Aulay and Florence (Spencer) MacKenzie of Port Morien.
Lovingly remembered as a wonderful dad, granddad, brother and uncle, he is survived by his son, Blair (Sharon); granddaughter, Rebecca; grandson, Peyton, step-grandchildren, Michaela and Bailey; brothers, Robert (Sonya), Kingston, N.S., Clyde, North Sydney and Donald (Jackie), Port Morien; sisters, Lois Turner, Port Morien, Jean (Donnie) Matheson, Stratford, P.E.I. and Ethel (Dave) Fisher, Halifax; several nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Anita MacQueen, Glace Bay; sisters-in-law, Kathy (Earl) Munroe, Coxheath and Glenda (Alex) MacQueen Memdovich, Calgary, Alta. and aunts, Dorothy (Hughie) Morrison and Gertrude Spencer, Sydney.
Besides his parents, Angus was predeceased by his wife, Sandra (MacQueen) in 2002 and nephew, Bobby MacKenzie.
Angus worked for General Motors, retiring from Ron May Pontiac Ltd. He was an avid sportsman, playing hockey in his youth with the Glace Bay Buckaneers. His favourite sport was harness racing, having owned and trained horses for over 50 years. He seldom missed a race wherever it was, but especially enjoyed “Old Home Week” in P.E.I. Rebecca and Blair shared this love of horses and harness racing. Angus was a life-time member of the CB Horseman’s Association and inducted into the Horsman’s Hall of Fame.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, Dec. 5 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Bob Biggar officiating. Interment in Black Brook Cemetery, Port Morien.
Memorials may be made to the Canadian Red Cross, the Diabetes Association of Nova Scotia, the Kidney Foundation or a charity of your choice.
