Hector "Nick" Nicholson

NICHOLSON, HECTOR "NICK" WILLIAM - After a long, healthy life, Hector "Nick" William Nicholson of Oromocto, NB, passed away on December 10th, 2014 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital at the age of 95. For the past six months, Hector was a resident at the Veterans Health Unit in Fredericton. Hector was born in New Glasgow, NS, on July 24th, 1919. He was a WWII veteran who served his country in France and Holland before being finally posted to Camp Gagetown in 1957. Following his retirement from the military in 1969, he opened Town Taxi in Oromocto. For 25 years he owned the business and had many faithful customers. He had a great sense of humour and always had a smile or joke to tell. Hector was a self taught artist and painted many pictures. One picture of the fort at Hazen Park is part of the information collage on the green in Oromocto. He also enjoyed woodworking. A talented musician who could pick up and play any instrument, Hector was a long time member of the River Valley Fiddlers and a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 93. Hector is survived by his son, George, and daughter-in-law, Gail, of Oromocto; granddaughter, Debbie Cotie (Adrian) of Lincoln; grandson, Craig Nicholson of Oromocto; great-granddaughter, Kylie Nicholson; several nieces and nephews in Nova Scotia; and his beloved friend and companion, his poodle Tammy. Hector was predeceased by his parents, siblings, and wife, Ruth, in 2008. The family would like to thank Dr. Keddy and the Staff of the Veterans Health Unit for their care.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will take place on Sunday, December 14th, 2014 at 2 pm in the Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Lori Beth Sheffield-Bowles will officiate. Interment will take place in Oromocto Pioneer Gardens in the spring. For those who wish, donations in Hector's memory can be made to charity of the donor's choice.
