It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Cyril Alexander Gillespie on Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Fred and Pauline (MacEachern) Gillespie.
For 30 years, Cyril was employed with City Wide Taxi. He was a member of St. Alphonse and Holy Redeemer parishes.
Surviving are his wife, Lynn Newton; daughters, Samantha, New Waterford, Amanda (Colin) Starzyczny, Glace Bay, AJ, New Waterford, Darlene, Ottawa and Cheryl Newton, Sydney; sisters, Joan (Gerard) Randall, Elvira Larocque and Marion Desjardins, Ontario and Paula March, North Sydney; brothers, Lawrence (Dorothy), Ontario, Frederick (Marilyn), Truro, Lynn (Janet) and Michael (Irma), South Bar and John (Lorraine), Ontario; grandchildren, Jamie, Jacob, Landon, Kelly and Jenna; great-grandchildren, John, Carter, Lola and J. J.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the chapel on Wednesday at 11 a. m., with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
