Margaret "Peggy" Capstick

Born In: Capstick, Nova Scotia, Canada
Born: November 9th, 1925

Passed in: Los Angeles, California, United States
Passed on: December 13th, 2014

It is with sadness that the family of Margaret 'Peggy' Capstick announces her passing. She died peacefully at her home in Los Angeles on Dec. 13, 2014.
Peggy was born and raised in Capstick, Nova Scotia. She attended the one room school in Capstick until she transferred to the convent school in Mabou run by the sisters of Notre Dame. After completing Teachers College, she left home to travel and work across Canada. She had many adventures along the way, including working in Toronto, teaching in British Columbia, and taking a memorable trip to Alaska.
Peggy settled in Los Angeles in 1962 and worked at Vista Del Mar Child and Family Services until her retirement in 1992. She took great pride in her position and gained the respect of many good friends there. Although Peggy could have vacationed anywhere she wished, until recently she “never missed a year” visiting her home and family in Cape Breton.
She was spirited and cheerful, loved caring for her cats, rooting for the Lakers, watching golf, playing the lotto, and reminiscing about her childhood in Capstick.
In a recent conversation, Peggy said, “So I had an interesting, good life. Because I had the courage. So I can’t complain about life at all. I had it pretty good.”
Survived by her brother, Jim (Marie) in Dingwall, N.S., whom she called every Sunday, sister-in-law Stella, many nieces, nephews, and her dear friend Willemina Oosterbeek. We all will miss her deeply.
Predeceased by her parents, John William and Annie (Brown) Capstick, and siblings, Katie (David) Chiasson, Thomas, Mary (Melvin) Marshall, John Michael (Josephine), Agnes (Gordon) MacInnis, Maurice (Winnie), Alex (Stella), Rita (Jim) MacNeil, and Charlie (Evelyn).
The family extends a thank you to all who cared for Peggy, particularly in the last few weeks, and a special thank you to her friend Colleen Shuken.
A memorial service will be held in Cape Breton at a later date.
