Edward 'Earl' Hann

Born In: Whitney Pier
Born: February 25th, 1930

Passed on: December 20th, 2014

It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Edward Earl Hann on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney River.
Born in Whitney Pier, Earl was the son of the late Cyril and Jessie (House) Hann.
Earl, with his loving wife of 62 years, owned and operated the Meadows Service Station, Snack Bar and Restaurant for 16 years and then operated the Meadows Motel. Earl went into sales at CB Chrysler and JR Raheys Furniture before opening CB Cake Decorators in Sydney River with his wife. Earl was also Post Master for the Sydney River Sub-Post office until his retirement, after which he became manager of Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
Earl was very much a people person and had a kind word to say about everyone he knew. A true gentleman to all who knew him, with a kind demeanor and a giant heart for children, as a devoted Shriner. He helped many children and their families attend Shriners Hospitals for the best care they deserved. You would be sure to find Earl at parades dressed as a clown, making everyone smile.
He was a member of the Philae Temple, past president of the Cape Breton Shrine Club, Member of the Clown Unit and Assistant Past Grand Chaplain of the MacKay Lodge No.113.
Earl will be lovingly remembered by his wife Harriet (Walton); son Allan (Michelle) Hann, daughters, Carolyn (Todd) MacLeod and Alison (Andrew) MacNeil; grandchildren, Christine (Albert) Phalen, Cory Hann (Laura Kurkimaki) and Kyle Hann (Brianne Walsh), Ayanna and Camden MacNeil.
Also survived by his sister Irene (Charlie) Rudderham, sisters-in-law, Phyllis Hann, Edith MacIntosh, Freema (Lloyd) Graham, brother-in-law William (Doreen) Walton, AJ MacDonald and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Earl was predeceased by brother Cyril, Sister Verna, nephew Donnie Hann and grandson Tyler MacNeil.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 22, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel, where a Masonic service will be held at 6:45 p.m. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 23 at 11 a.m. St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, King Street, North Sydney, with Rev. Glen Kent officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment at St. Marks Anglican Cemetery, Coxheath immediately following the reception.
