Lexena Margaret MacKillop, 91, a resident of Richmond Villa, St. Peters, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014.
Born in Point Michaud, she was the youngest daughter and last surviving member of Kenneth and Mary (Morrison) MacAskill’s family.
Lexena was a graduate of the Glace Bay General Hospital School of Nursing, 1946. Her nursing career was spent in several hospitals in cape Breton and Hamilton, Ont. After further studies, Lexena continued her career as public heath nurse for over 20 years in Richmond County.
Lexena was a long-standing member of the Grand River Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed her time in the Grand River Seniors Club and Retired Nurses Association.
Lexena is survived by six nephews and three nieces.
She was predeceased by her husband Lloyd in 2002, sisters, Margaret, Mabel and Dolena, brothers, Donald and John.
Visitation will take place in Grand River Presbyterian church on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014, from 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m., from where the funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. with Kevin Richardson officiating. Interment to follow in Lakeside Cemetery, Ferguson’s Lake.
The family wishes to acknowledge the nursing and support Staff of Richmond Villa for their kindness and support.
Memorial donations may be made to Lakeview Cemetery or a charity of choice.
