DELCLOO, ALBERT "BERT" V. - 1920 - 2014 - “A man cannot flycast and worry at the same time” - Peacefully, in his 95th year at St Marys of the Lake in Kingston, Ontario on December 27th, 2014. Loving husband of the late Hazel Delcloo (Wright). Much loved Father of David A. (Pat Clark/Swim), Kingston. Grandfather of Charlene (John Hladky), Montreal and David A.W. (Valerie Eddleman), Toronto. Great Grandfather to Albert, William and Matthew. He will be missed by nieces Eleanor of Kanata,ON and Patricia of Selkirk, MB. 1936 – Governor General Medal winner for the province of Manitoba. A veteran of the RCAF serving in Winnipeg and Montreal, graduating with a Bachelor of Science (Mechanical Engineering) in 1950. He began his career with Dominion Rubber in Montreal. This lead to a move to New Brunswick in 1958, residing in Saint John and Riverview. It was in New Brunswick that his love for fishing attracted him to fly-fishing and Atlantic Salmon. He continued to fish on the Miramichi, Nepisguit and Hammond Rivers for 50 years with his fishing partner, Randy Giffin. Life member of the Hammond River Angling Assoc. and the Nepisguit Salmon Assoc. He was a staunch supporter of the Atlantic Salmon Federation. Moving back to Montreal in 1967, he took early retirement in 1978. Following health issues in Montreal, he moved to Kingston, ON and took precious care of Hazel for ten years. Fishing and golf interests continued in Kingston and the Bay of Quinte area. He was a member of Camden Braes until 2013 and continued to fish on Hay Bay until September 2014. He enjoyed curling and cycling on TV.
As per Bert’s wishes, cremation will take place and a celebration of Bert’s life will be held in 2015. In lieu of flowers, donations on Bert’s behalf to any Atlantic Salmon Conservation Association, the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by his family. Bert’s family would like to thanks the Nurses of St. Elizabeth, the Doctor’s & Staff of the Cancer Centre at the Kingston General Hospital and the Staff of the Palliative Care Ward of St Mary’s of the Lake.
