Arvid Leinan 1944-2015
Arvid Brent Leinan passed away on December 14 at the age of 70 at Harbors of Newport Care Centre in Calgary after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer Disease.
Arvid was born on September 18, 1944, in Swift Current General Hospital. He grew up on Leinan farm at Leinan, Sask. He attended school at Leinan, Stewart Valley and Swift Current. In 1967 he graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a degree in Electrical Engineering. After graduation and until his retirement he worked as a Petroleum Engineer for Chevron Oilfield Service and Bisset Resources in Houston, Texas, Whitecourt, Alberta, Fort St. John, B.C., Venezuela, Edmonton and Calgary. He was an active member of the Petroleum Society and a recipient of the Outstanding Service Award. In his spare time he loved music and enjoyed playing the violin. He also enjoyed physical activity and was an avid runner, hiker, and outdoor enthusiast. He was a wine maker, connoisseur, loved to travel and experience different cultures, read and learn. He will be remembered as a handyman and Trivial Pursuit powerhouse. Arvid was an active Rotarian since 1977 as well a founding member and former president of Centennial Rotary Club of Calgary. Arvid is survived by his wife of 47 years, Irene, daughter, Valerie Leinan and spouse Craig Taillefer of Ottawa, Brent Leinan and spouse Andrea Ramcharam of Calgary, Mother Helen Leinan of Swift Current, siblings Linda Leinan (Todd Sloan)., Audrey Wakeling (Tom) of Edmonton, Bruce Leinan (Sue) of Calgary, Lois Lempert (Gary) of Langley, B.C., and Laurel Howell (Allan) of Leinan, Sask. He is also survived by his 14 nephews and nieces, and Aunt Bernice Zagozeski, Uncle Joe Zagozeski and sister in-law Mary Knight. He was predeceased by his father, Allan Leinan in 1987.
His funeral service took place on December 17, 2014 from Ascension Catholic Church in Calgary, wit Rev. Avinash Colaco Presiding. Readers were Linda Leinan and Audrey Wakeling, prayer for the Faithful by Mary Knight. Gift bearers were Valerie Leinan and Brent Leinan. Pall bearers were Brent Leinan, Craig Taillefer, Bruce Leinan, Byron Wakeling and Ian Howell.
Funeral arrangements and cremations were under the care on McInnis and Holloways.
Following the funeral, Mass friends and relatives were invited to the parish hall for a reception where tributes were given by son Brent and daughter Valerie.
