NICHOLS, David Paul - Age 73, Windsor, Hants Co., passed away Saturday, December 27, 2014 after a lengthy illness at home. Born June 19, 1941 in Middleton, he was a son of Kathleen (Devine) and the late Paul Nichols. David was a teacher who started his career in Bedford Central School and later in 1964 opened the new Windsor Forks School as its first principal. He later became a science and math teacher at Windsor Regional High School. Retiring in 1994, when he then sold real estate for 10 years. He is survived by his mother Kathleen, Windsor Elms Village; his loving wife, the former Doris Singer; sons, John (Kathleen Morris), Toronto; Gregory (Kelly Coughlan), Halifax; and Jeffrey, Toronto; brother, Gary (Diane) Nichols, Bedford; grandchildren, Caroline, Stella and Rosemary, Toronto; Abby, Leah and Molly, Halifax; sisters-in-law, Marlene Cochrane, Kennetcook; Barbara (Paul) Bertrand, Halifax; Orma Wilson, Edmonton, Alberta and Virginia Singer, Kennetcook. He was predeceased by his father, Paul Nichols; father and mother-in-law, Arthur “Bun” and Margaret “Maggie” Singer; brothers-in-law, Norman Cochrane and Terry Singer. Arrangements were entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317). A funeral service to celebrate David’s life was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 31 in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Beth Johnston officiated. A reception followed in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. Interment will be at a later date in Kennetcook Cemetery. Donations in memory of David may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 5826 South St., Halifax, NS B3H 1S6 or a charity of one’s choice.
