Hazel May (Le Blanc) Currie

Age 89, of Pictou, passed away peacefully in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow on Tuesday December 30, 2014. Born in Pictou, December 28, 1925, she was a daughter of the late John Tom and Johanna (White) Le Blanc. Hazel was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was also an honorary “Nanny Hazel” to many others. Hazel is survived by her fifteen children, Daniel (Sheila), Bernie (Marlene), both of Pictou; Fred (Wendy), Coldbrook; Alexis, High River, Alberta; Paul ( Marcella), Edmonton; Peter, Andy (Mary), both of Pictou; Beatrice (Lionel), Lower Sackville; Cathy, Spryfield; Lorraine (Larry), Martock; Bernadette, Calgary; Nancy (Daniel), Westville; Fraser, Pictou; Peggy, New Glasgow and Scott (Nadine), Spryfield; 28 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Connie O’Malley, Winnipeg; Robert LeBlanc, Napean, Ontario; Fred LeBlanc, Walter LeBlanc and Irene Poole, all of Pictou. In addition to her parents, Hazel was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Joseph; also her sisters, Beatrice LeBlanc and Marion Hawes; her grandson, BJ Landry and her son-in-law, Mark Schneucker. Hazel was a keen bowler and swimmer. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, the Pictou West Food Bank and the Opportunity Shop. She was a lifelong member of Stella Maris Parish, Pictou as well as a life member of the CWL. Her final years were spent in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, where she received exceptional care. She enjoyed her time there immensely and had a special bond with her roommate Christine Murray. A very special thank you goes to the excellent staff of Glen Haven Manor for their loving care of Mom. Also thanks to Sister Mary for her spiritual guidance and support to Mom and our family. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou, where visitation will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral mass will take place Saturday at 11:00 AM from Stella Maris Church, Pictou, with Father Tom Mac Neil officiating. Reception to follow in the parish hall. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
