Mary Headdy

HEADDY, Mary Lee – age 94 of Middleton, NS formerly of Nictaux South, NS passed away Saturday, December 27, 2014 in the Heart of the Valley Long Term Care Centre, Middleton. Born August 8, 1920 in Bloomington, NS she was a daughter of the late Charles and Bertha (Vidito) Cummings. Mary was a Registered Nurse and graduated from the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing in 1944. Mary and her husband Victor lived in several places across Canada and in Europe when he was serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force later returning to Nictaux South in 1977. Mary worked in a number of different hospitals across Canada including in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and Nova Scotia. She retired from Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton in 1986. In her spare time, Mary enjoyed knitting, gardening and poetry. She also loved playing bingo and had a special love for animals. She was a past member of the Bloomington Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Danny and wife Barb, Nictaux South and two grandsons, Kyle, Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland and Jonathon, Nictaux South. Also survived by sister, Faye Trask, Bloomington and nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Victor; brother, Nelson; sister, Claire Thompson; brothers-in-law, Arnold Trask, Gordon Thompson; sister-in-law, Reeta Cummings and nephews Allan Trask and Peter Thompson. A very special thank you to the nurses and staff at the Heart of the Valley Long Term Care Centre for their loving care for almost 4 years. Cremation has taken place. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date in the Nictaux Cemetery. Donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the Heart of the Valley Long Term Care Centre Recreation Department or charity of choice.
