Winona Grant
GRANT, WINONA DIMEREZE ELIZABETH - It is with much sadness that the family of Nonee (nee Cronkhite) Grant announces her passing on January 5, 2015. Born in Woodstock in 1922, Winona married William Albert "Joe" Gaudet in 1945. After the birth of her son (Joel), and daughter (Jennifer), she worked as an accountant and then as a private secretary for the Superintendent of Schools in Fredericton. She belonged to the Fredericton and New Brunswick Society of Artists for 10 years. After her husband Joe's death in 1972, Nonee later moved to Ottawa where she married Dr. Vincent Grant. She worked as an assistant for his dentistry practice for 15 years. Winona was a talented artist and musician throughout her life and continued her creative pursuits with passion up until her death. She studied piano, voice, and violin in her earlier years. She was also an avid artist both in painting and drawing. She knitted and sewed throughout her life, producing dozens of handstitched heirloom quilts and blankets. With an indomitable spirit and strength of will, so evident in her character, she conquered the many trials of life as a mother and wife. Her children, grandchildren, and extended family feel privileged to have had such a devoted and loving mother and grandmother in their lives. Winona is predeceased by her parents Bowman and Geneva Cronkhite; husbands, William Albert Gaudet and Dr. Vincent Grant; Vincent’s son, Alan and her brother-in-law, Drape. She is survived by her sister, Enid Draper of Newmarket, ON; brother, David (Sheila) Cronkhite of New Glasgow; son, Joel (Ono) Gaudet; daughter, Jennifer (Thomas) Johnson; the Grant family, John, Maureen, Robbie, Sharon, and Ronnie and their children; grandchildren Michelle, Joseph, Tushga, Ali, Virginia, and Emma; as well as three great-grandchildren. The family would like to give thanks to the Palliative Care consultant, Dr. Debbie Gowan, who gave her professional guidance and friendship to Winona and her family during this difficult time. Also many thanks to the wonderful care of ExtraMural nurses, Red Cross workers and Natalie Connors who assisted as well as the considerate guidance we have received from McAdam’s Funeral Home.
There will be no visitation or service. For those who wish, donations in memory of Winona may be made to the charity of choice. Condolences may be made through McAdam’s Funeral Home.
