Smith, Ronald Dennis Smith, age 70, beloved husband of Win, of Ponteix, Sk. passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on January 3, 2015 at Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, Sk. The memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 10, 2015 from Notre Dame d'Auvernge Church in Ponteix, Sk. with Laura Balas officiating. The organist was Betty Baragar. The urn bearer was Arthur Wright. Honorary Pallbearers were Barry and Diane Cann, Don and Brenda MacKay, John and Val McManes and Warren and Ginger Tiede. The Interment Service took place at the Ponteix Community Cemetery at a later date. Ron is survived by his wife Win; daughter Jennifer (Colin) Laird; son Bradley; grandsons Brandon and Gavin; granddaughters Kendra and Caelan; brother Terry (Carol) Smith; sister Susan Fitzgerald and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parent Ronald and Dorothy Smith. Ron was born in Ponteix, Sk. on September 1, 1944 in Ponteix, Sk. Ron was married Win Stevenson on October 7, 1972 in North Vancouver. The couple then moved to Calgary in 1975, were Ron worked the City of Calgary Transit until 2004 when he retired and moved to Ponteix, to enjoy small town living, travelling and spending time with his grandchildren. While living in Calgary, Ron was involved with the Calgary Buffalo Hockey Association and also the Coordinator of the Calgary Junior B Hockey Association. Ron was a quiet, gentle man and will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
