John L. Hood, 95, of Champlain Avenue, Sydney, N.S. passed away Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015.
Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late Thomas and Gladys (Reed) Hood.
He served in the Second World War overseas in the R.C.A.F. - England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany.
In Sydney he worked and retired from Cape Breton Beverages in November 1984. In his later years he enjoyed his games of golf with his many friends at Seaview.
Jack is survived by his two sons, John in Calgary and David in Winnipeg; three grandchildren, Katherine, Emily and Jonathan and great-grandson, Jack in Calgary; sister, Phyllis Stevens in Ontario; and several nieces and nephews.
Jack was predeceased by his wife Dorothy, brothers, Kenneth, Harold and Charles and sister, Ruth.
Visitation with the family will be held Friday, January 16, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel.
Funeral service will take place Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Thomas Whent officiating. Interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dad’s doctors; Dr. Steven MacDougall and Dr. Susan MacLeod for their compassionate care and to the staff of Palliative Care and the Cape Breton Cancer Centre.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society or to a charity of one’s choice.
