GLADYS HELEN MARGARET FAGRIE
Gladys passed away suddenly and peacefully on January 12, 2015 at Pioneer Village in Regina. Gladys was born July 16, 1931 to Swedish immigrant parents Wilhelm P Sandin and Johanna Kristina Hakansson who had immigrated to the Parkside District
in the early 1900’s. They were both from Lillhardal Sweden. Gladys was a “Proud Swede” all her life and could speak Swedish and Norwegian, and often did, especially when as a married woman, her and Mervil wanted to discuss things that they did not want the kids to hear. Gladys attended Spruce Glen School, and after her schooling was completed, she worked for the Saskatchewan Government in Regina. In later years, after her children had left home, she worked at the Prince Albert Daily Herald and the Y.W.C.A in Prince Albert. Gladys married Mervil Joseph Fagrie in Prince Albert in 1949, and they lived and farmed at Birch Hills, and in 1963 moved to Prince Albert where Mervil worked as a Correctional Officer at the Prince Albert Provincial Jail.
They raised 4 children, Terry, Juanita (Dooney), Karen, and Pamela. Mom was a staunch CCF/NDP supporter all her life, and was very vocal in her support! She was always a jokester, a prankster, and a people person, always having a big soft-spot for those less fortunate than she was! She also liked to write and had excellent penmanship, and really liked a good pen! She was also a good story teller, and could keep her children enthralled with stories of her childhood experiences growing up, and she had a lot of them! An example of her being a jokester is as follows: Her parents had a summer kitchen close to the house when she was a child. One time her Dad piled up storm windows beside
the summer kitchen, and much to his surprise, one day found them all broken. He asked all the children who broke them, and Mom, with a straight face said she saw the
chickens jumping on them, and that’s who broke them! In reality, it was her who had broken them with a stick for no good reason, and then blamed the chickens! She was predeceased by her husband, Mervil Fagrie in August 1993, her parents Wilhelm and Hannah, brother Johnny, son-in-law Paul Bantle, infant granddaughter Jessilyn Erin Fagrie, and infant grandson Jody Lyster. Gladys is survived by her son Terry (Olivia) Fagrie, daughters Juanita (Drew) Zaiser, Karen (Eddy) Lyster, and Pamela (Mark) Deschner, as well as 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Judy and Ruth, brother David (Tina), and their families. In the last few years, one of her greatest joys was to receive pictures and videos of all the great grandchildren. She was very proud of them all and her face would just light up and she would have lots of laughs and be totally delighted in seeing them all! The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all the staff at Pioneer Village for making her last few years comfortable while she was a resident. As well, thanks to all the Medical Staff she had dealings with. As per Mom’s wishes, no funeral will be held, but a memorial service will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Lutheran Collegiate Bible Institute, Box 459 Outlook, SK SOL 2NO. Please make checks payable to LCBI Outlook, or donations to LCBI may also be made with a credit card by calling 1-306-867-8971 Ext: 106. Arrangements entrusted to:
