87, of Covehead Road, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on January 16, 2015, at South Shore Villa, Crapaud, P.E.I.
Born September 12, 1927, to the late James “Edwin” and Rosella (Wooldridge) Birt, Elma and her late husband of 66 years, Garth, raised seven sons of whom they were very proud.
Elma is survived by her sons: Gordon (Heather), Belleville, ON; Allison (Teri), St. Thomas, ON; Edwin (Darlene), Baddeck , N.S.; Phillip (Wavey), Toronto, ON; and Graham, Covehead Road; and by her daughters-in-law, Betty, Ayr, ON, and Lynda, Mt. Herbert, P.E.I. She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Gary, Glen, Rick, Lori, Tim, Trisha, Jason, Brandon, Amy, Joe, Brandi, Melita and Matthew; and by her 17 great-grandchildren. Elma is also survived by her brothers, Almon (Lillian), Greensburg, PA; Clarence (Mabel), Charlottetown; by her sister, Carol (Dan) Olenik, Georgetown, ON, and by her sisters-in-law, Kay Birt, Charlottetown, and Marjean Birt, Alpharetta, GA. Elma is also remembered by her special nieces, Doreen (Phillip) MacInnis and Jean Birt, as well as by many more nieces and nephews.
Elma was predeceased by her sons, Ivan and Gerry; brothers, Richard (Rita), Lucas, Benny, and John (Hattie).
Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home for visitation Tuesday, January 20, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Wednesday, January 21, from Calvary Church, 9 Capital Dr., Charlottetown, at 2 p.m. Interment later in Mount Stewart People’s Cemetery.
