Simone Richard

RICHARD, Simone Mary – 86 of Pictou passed away peacefully on January 16, 2015 in the Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou surrounded by her family. Born on April 21, 1928 in Cap Pele, N.B., she was a daughter of the late Philip & Ida (Landry) Vienneau. Simone moved to Pictou with her family in 1942 where she worked at the Pictou Armories and later as a housekeeper. In 1949 she married Ernest Richard, and they lived in Mulgrave for several years and then returned to Pictou. Simone was a loving and devoted daughter, mother, grandmother and sister. Surviving are her children, Ann (Harold) Whitewood, Stellarton; Marion (Eric) Scanlan, Cold Lake AB; Gary, Pictou; Wayne (Sonia) Bonnyville, AB; grandchildren, Lisa Kelly; Victor Whitewood; Stephen; Joanne Richard; Michaela McRae; and Michael McRae. She is also survived by great grandchildren, Nicolas and Olivia Kelly; brothers Joseph, Pictou; Azor (Donna), Lewis Lake; sisters: Theresa Cormier, Port Hawkesbury; Annette (Warren) Chipman, Bridgewater; Cecelia (Ronald) Robinson, Ottawa; Phyllis (Harvey) Bate; sister in law, Carolyn Vienneau, both of Pictou; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her former husband Ernest, brothers, Merville and Gerald. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all the staff at the Shiretown Nursing Home for their loving care of their mother over the last seven years, and an extra very special thanks for the kindness from their hearts. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. Funeral service with mass will be held at 11 AM on Monday from Stella Maris Roman Catholic, with Father Tom MacNeil officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Family flowers only please. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of McLaren Funeral Service, Pictou.
