Thomas ‘Skipper’ Voutier, age 97 of Main Street, Glace Bay, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Petit Forte, Newfoundland, he was the son of the late Philip and Beatrice Voutier.
In his younger years, Thomas left Newfoundland and came to Glace Bay to fish. He then moved to Sudbury, Ontario where he was employed for many years with the International Nickel Company. Upon retirement, he decided to come back to Glace Bay as he missed the ocean. Thomas was a member of the Orange Lodge in Newfoundland. He will be remembered as a very pleasant, easy going man who loved his family. Skipper also enjoyed recalling his old fishing days.
He is survived by three daughters, Phyllis Voutier (Lloyd), Glace Bay, Ruby Larocque, Sudbury, Ont., Alma St. Martin, Glace Bay, brothers, sisters, grand and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Thomas was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte (Purchase) Voutier, one son, Norman and siblings.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 from noon until the time of service at 2 p.m., both in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Rev. Donald MacDonald officiating. Interment in Chalmers United Cemetery, Ocean Avenue, Dominion.
