Malcolm McEachern

Passed on: January 11th, 2015

McEachern; Malcolm Jean McEachern, September 25, 1922 - January 11, 2015. On January 11, 2015 Malcolm died peacefully at the Foyer St. Joseph Nursing Home, Ponteix, SK. He was 92 years old and had lived most of his life in the Hazlet area. Malcolm was born on September 25th, 1922 in Tompkins, SK. to parents Clarence and Catherine (Nadeau) McEachern. He grew up on the McEachern farm twenty miles north of Tompkins and attended the Boyer Lake School for grades 1-10 and completed high school at Campion College in Regina. In the fall of 1950 he went to Toronto for a course in Machine Shop Practice. The decision to go to Toronto was not only educational but there was a strong romantic attraction as well. Mildred Dosman from Tompkins was working there and they eventually married in Toronto on July 30, 1951. Malcolm was active in his community; councilor for the R.M. of Pittville for 13 years, the Reeve for 17 years and Secretary-Treasurer of the Nadeauville Rural Telephone Company for 18 years. He served as chairperson for the parish council of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Tompkins. Along with being very community minded he farmed on the homestead his parents began in the early 1900's. He appreciated the majestic hills that surrounded his valley farm. He raised cattle, grain farmed and perfected his skills as a talented machinist. He could fix almost anything. Later in life he enjoyed the challenge of collecting and restoring antique tractors- getting many back to working condition. Malcolm actively farmed till his early eighties when in 2004 he and Mildred moved to the Bentley Retirement Home in Swift Current. Malcolm is survived by his children Rita (Jake) Banman of Neville, SK and her children Denise (Laine) Wall, Rena (Jeff) Middleton, Kevin (Jordanne) LeMarellec. Joe McEachern of Hazlet, SK and his children Ben, Dan (Sara) and Charlotte (Jon) Villemaire. Janet (Bill) MacDonald of Luseland, SK and their children Wendy (Kelly) Smith and Kristin (Scot) Hooper.
