Allison Irwin "Allie" Salter, age 79 of Westville, passed away Friday, January 23 surrounded by family in the Aberdeen Hospital.
He was born in Union Centre, the son of the late Wilfred and Irene (Skerry) Salter.
Allie was a mechanic and a labourer with Local 615 working on several jobs before retirement.
Some of his favourite jobs were the Highland Square Mall and the King Street Warehouse. He was awarded the Gold Hard Hat for an accident he was involved in at Trenton School.
Allie is probably best known as the guy from the Westville Road with the axes and teapots. He loved stocking up his white van with his treasures and going down to the Westville Road to talk with anyone and everyone who would stop to chat.
Allie enjoyed a good game of cards and often had mysterious ways of winning. He spent a lot of years camping at Harbour Lights Campground and enjoyed playing horseshoes and painting lawn ornaments. Allie loved to talk to everyone and loved to tease.
Allie will be sadly missed by his wife Isabel (Deagle); children, Arlene Johnstone, (Barry) Westville; Gordon Salter (George), Toronto; Theresa Dooley, Westville; Eric Salter (Karen), Mission, B.C; Mark Salter (Cherie), Westville; 10 grandkids and 10 great grandkids.
He is also survived by 3 sisters Phyllis Schinzel (Ottawa); Helen Robinson (Johnny); Violet Hughes (Lloyd) and 4 brothers, Vernon Salter, Ronnie Salter (Myrna), Garnett Salter (Bonnie), Henry Salter (Joanie).
He was predeceased by his sisters Treva Gordon, Joyce Mann, Hazel Salter, Rose Lenehan, Doris Legge, and a brother, Bud Salter.
Allie is resting at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Monday from 7-9 p.m. (only). His funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with the Rev. Bonny Wynn officiating.
