Allyson Victoria Sherlock, beloved chosen daughter of Matthew and Emma (Spinney) Sherlock of Barrie, Ontario, returned to the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on Thursday, January 22nd, 2015 after a long courageous battle with leukemia. Allyson was born in Mississauga Ontario on January 5th 2012. Allyson’s singing and dancing brought joy and laughter to all. Some of her favourite activities were having little tea parties, and giving hugs to her dolls and little Elmo. She had a lively sense of humour and knew how to bring smiles to everyone who met her. She enjoyed going to church and playing with all of her nursery friends. Allyson was also supported by her little friends in the Wee Ups and Downs group in the Down Syndrome Association of Simcoe County.
Allyson spent many months at The Hospital for Sick Children and captured the hearts of all the nurses, doctors and hospital staff on 8A and 8B whom she came to know and love. Some of her favourite events in the hospital were her Camp Ooch toddler playgroup and story time with A. Leboo the Clown. We are so grateful to these angels that created smiles on the best and worst of days. Besides her parents, Allyson is survived by her amazing, adored older brother Gordon, her grandmother Ardith Spinney of Kentville Nova Scotia, and grandparents James and Sheila Sherlock of Eganville Ontario, and many uncles, aunts and cousins. Allyson was predeceased by her grandpa Peter Allison Spinney, and her furry canine brother Alfred. Family and friends were received at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 201 Minet's Point Road, Barrie, Ontario, on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A memorial service for Allyson was held on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 79 Ferris Lane, Barrie, Ontario at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Down Syndrome Association of Simcoe County, or Candlelighters of Simcoe County.
