It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our treasured husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Louis MacKay, on Monday, January 26, 2015. He was born in Sydney Mines on March 11, 1931.
Louis was an avid sports fisherman, and spent many years casting a line over the Margaree River. He worked as a coal miner in several mines in the area, and retired as Electrical Manager of Prince Mine in Point Aconi in 1986. Above all, Louis was a family man who worked hard for his family, and devoted his life to them.
Louis is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary; his daughters Natalie (Larry), Nadine (Sam), and Annette (Paul); and his daughter-in-law, Beth Nader. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Mitchell, Rebecca, Amanda, Ashley, Megan, Delana and Kyle; and his great-grandchildren; all of whom he cherished dearly. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Joe Greene; nephew Bill Greene, and the Mackie family in Ontario.
He was predeceased by his son Dwayne; a son in infancy; his mother Hilda MacKay; step-father Roderick Boyd; grandparents Jane and Edward MacKay; and sister-in-law, Helen Greene.
Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Emergency Department and the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
Donations in Louis’ memory may be made to Cape Breton Palliative Care, or a charitable organization of one’s choosing.
Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
