Gregory 'Greg' Petite

Born: April 8th, 1962

Passed in: Glace Bay
Passed on: January 28th, 2015

It’s with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Gregory 'Greg' Petite on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015 at the Glace Bay Hospital. He was surrounded by his wife and daughters when he passed.
Greg was born on April 8, 1962 to Marjorie and the late Arthur Petite. He was raised on Sunset Drive, the second youngest of six brothers and sisters.
Throughout his life, Greg was an avid sports fan. Growing up, he was a decorated baseball player for the Glace Bay Colonels and competed at national-level championships. He also played hockey, including three years as a member of the Morrison High School team.
At age 16, he started working at Jay’s Chicken in Glace Bay as a delivery man. Through talent and hard work he eventually became manager, beginning a long career in food service industry.
At age 29 he married Pauline McGillivary, the love of his life. Together they had two daughters, Kristin and Ashley. In the years that followed they built a home filled with love and laughter. His life was dedicated to his family.
Together with his wife, he opened Krisley’s Diner on Commercial Street—named for his two daughters. Greg was in his element when in the kitchen. Visitors to both his home and restaurant could count on racks of ribs, plates of wings and cabbage rolls, trays of squares - and on leaving with a full stomach.
It seems like everyone has a story and memory of Greg. This speaks to the kind of man he was: a kind, easy-going soul with a great sense of humour. He was always looking out for others and taking care of their needs. We will miss him so much.
Greg is survived by his wife, Pauline; daughters, Kristin (Mike MacKenzie) and Ashley. He is also survived by his mother, Marjorie; sisters, Annette (Lorne Boutilier), Valerie (Doug Sharpe); brothers, Brian (Lugene), Wayne and Arthur (Vanessa). He also leaves behind many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
He was predeceased by his father, Arthur.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 3 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at Saint Mary’s Anglican Church, Marconi Street, Glace Bay, with the Reverend Vernon Reid officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Greg’s memory to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre Patient Care Fund.
“To have been loved so deeply, even though the person who loved us is gone, will give us some protection forever.”
