STEWART, BRIAN
It is with heavy and saddened hearts that the family of the late Brian Merlin Stewart is announcing his death on Sunday, February 1st, 2015 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
Brian is the son of the late Merlin and Bernice (Daley) Stewart formerly of Blacks Harbour. Brian was born November 9th, 1958 at the Blacks Harbour Hospital.
A loving husband and father, he is survived by his wife Jane (Moffatt) Stewart, daughter Reba Stewart, and special nephew Brandon Stewart of Blacks Harbour, his three sisters Karen (Russell) Sawler of Dieppe, Kim (Paul) Stewart, and Gail (Jeff) Gaudett of Blacks Harbour. Missed by in-laws Bill and Freda Moffatt, brother in-law Peter (Marlene) Moffatt, nephews Jason Rushton, Michael (Cheryl) Moffatt, and Jonah Moffatt, of Blacks Harbour, NB as well as Kyle (Heather) and Evan Moffatt, and sister in-law Regina Clarke of St. John’s, NL. He leaves nieces Christy (Justin) Gaudett of Quispamsis, NB and Shannon (Shane) Moffatt as well as nephews Raven King and Haydon Moffatt of Blacks Harbour, NB.
Brian was an avid hunter and fisherman, with lots of fun camp stories for all to hear. A regular at the Fundy Arena, Brian played hockey from Junior C to the Ancient Mariners, old timer’s league, and encouraged dozens of young players as a coach in minor hockey. He enjoyed the curling club and social gatherings upstairs for many years, always happy to receive an Alpine for his losses. He was a great supporter of his family’s sports endeavors as well, spending many days at the rink, pool, gym, or barn. He took on many roles: horse hauler, announcer, coach, cheering squad, and horse whisperer as he led the horses into the ring. As an active member of the community, Brian served on the village council, fire department, volunteer ambulance, and delivered Santa and his reindeer to the village center for many years.
Brian was a proud employee of Cooke Aquaculture as Senior Manager of Supply Chain. He enjoyed traveling with the Cooke Aquaculture team to Boston, Newfoundland, Chile, Scotland and brought home stories and souvenirs. He loved his work and spoke fondly of his colleagues and their families. Night or day, you could spot Brian with BlackBerry in hand whether in the office, on the tractor, or in a tree stand.
Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. The family will be receiving guests Wednesday, February 4th from 2 to 4pm and from 6 to 9 pm at the Blacks Harbour Wesleyan church.
