Ian George Jamieson

Ian passed away on Feb. 2, 2015, in Dunedin, New Zealand after a brave battle with brain cancer.
He is survived by his wife and soulmate Frances Anderson, stepsons, Kris (Karla), Neil (Anna) and Tim (Carla) and grandkids, Zavier, Anika, Marco and Ashleigh. In Nova Scotia by his proud and adoring mother, Betty and the late Jack Jamieson, and by his siblings, Joan McDougall (Alistair predeceased), Stuart (Minnie) and Paul (Donna) as well as six nieces and nephews.
Ian graduated with honors from Acadia University (78), University of Alberta (81) and University of Auckland (86) and had a Post Doctorate fellowship at Queens University (90). He taught at University of Otago in Dunedin since 1990, retiring in the fall of 2014 due to his illness. As well as beloved teacher and mentor, Ian was a world-renown and prolific researcher. His area of specialty was Conservation Genetics and Management of Threatened Species.
His funeral service takes place in Dunedin on Saturay, Feb. 7 at 1p.m. (Friday Feb. 8 at 8 p.m. Nova Scotia time) and can be viewed live at http://www.hopeandsons.co.nz/live-streaming/. There will also be a celebration of Ian’s life in Baddeck this August.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Orokonui Ecosanctuary http://www.orokonui.org.nz/, the Otago Community Hospice or a charity of your choice will be appreciated by the family.
