Albert Daniel McCardle – April 18, 1931 to February 2, 2015

Dad passed away peacefully at the age of 83, in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Monday, February 2, 2015. A huge thank you to dad’s hunny buns, Kayla Hagglund and Agnes Pamintuan, his primary care workers at Parkview Place long term care facility. These 2 ladies truly loved dad and were his “family” when we couldn’t be there for him.

Albert leaves to mourn his daughter Bonnie (Don (Max) MacDonell), son Kirk (Yvonne), grandson Connor, grand-daughter Brienna, brothers David (Mary), Leonard, John (Audrey) and sisters Annie, Tizzy, sister-in-law Donna Manning, brother-in-law Glen Manning (Barb), two very close family friends Gladys Lowry and Iona MacDonald and many nieces and nephews. Albert was predeceased by his wife Hazel, brother George McCardle, sisters Pauline Sheridan and Virginia McCardle, brother-in-laws Terry Coughlin, Stan Zinck and sister-in-law Ada Burkett.

Dad was born in Chelton Beach, Prince Edward Island, one of 9 children to Daniel and Evangeline McCardle. At the age of two, dad was struck with polio causing mobility issues with his left leg, but he was a fighter and overcame many disability stigmas throughout his life. Albert worked his way west eventually landing in Winnipeg where he met the woman of his dreams, Hazel, and raised his family. Al established his own construction business, McCardle Construction, building decks and fences in Winnipeg with his “crew”. He retired the business in 1997, travelled to Kenora on the weekends to visit his family, then relocated to Prince Edward Island but soon realized that Winnipeg was “home” and returned. Dad was a lighthearted free spirit that will be fondly remembered by many.

In Lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada. Your donation will help fund research into the causes and a cure for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. www.alzheimer.ca Alzheimer Society of Canada, 20 Eglington Ave. W., 16th floor, Toronto ON, M4R 1K8.
