Harriet Ellen Murphy, age 88 passed away on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, in Inverary Manor, Inverness surrounded by family.
Born in Inverness on June 22, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Charles D. and Annie B. (Smith) Smith.
Harriet was a former member of Hillsborough United Church. Harriet held different positions at the Municipal offices in Port Hood. She was the first secretary of Mabou Consolidated School, a position she enjoyed for over 30 years. Harriet was also very involved in the Home and School and secretary of local CUPE Union. Upon retirement she and her husband, Kenneth operated Doire Maple Bed and Breakfast.
Harriet is survived by sons, Floyd (Gloria), Vancouver; Clifford (Mary Mae), Sydney; Danford (Debbie), Murphy’s Hill, Mabou; daughters, Ellen, Halifax; Janet (Lindsey), Denman Island, B.C., brother-in-law, Donnie (late Verna), MacLean; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Harriet was predeceased by her husband. Kenneth Murphy (2005); brother. Danford (Ford) and sister. Verna (Smith) MacLean; sister-in-law. Beatrice (Cameron) Smith.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 13, 2015 in Port Hood & Area Resting Place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 11 a.m. in St. Stephen United Church, Port Hood with Pastor Maggie Plant celebrating. Burial at a later date in Elmwood Cemetery, Hillsborough.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Elmwood Cemetery, Hillsborough, co of Lynn Smith RR # 4 Mabou, N.S. BOE IXO, Central Inverness Palliative Care Society or to Inverary Manor, Inverness.
