STEVENS, ALBERT MacLEAN
After declining health the passing of Albert M. Stevens occurred on the Sunday, February 15th, 2015 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born August 12, 1926 in Truro NS, he was the son of the late Paul and Jesssie (Chappell) Stevens and the husband of 64 years to Margaret “Ena” (MacLeod) Stevens.
Albert grew up in Saint John, NB and attended Saint John High School. He graduated and entered directly into the second year of the Bachelor of Science program in Civil Engineering. He graduated from UNB in 1947 as the class leader, and was invited to immediately join the faculty in civic engineering. He was to teach the returning veterans of the Second World War. He later completed graduate studies at the University of California, Berkley Campus in the area of Transportation Engineering and returned to UNB to co-found the graduate program in the Transportation Group.
Albert is the last member of the group of four civil engineering Faculty members who founded the Consulting Engineer Firm ADI Limited which was the leading Civil engineering Firm in Eastern Canada for many decades.
Albert was heavily involved in the engineering profession having been President of the Association of Professional Engineers and a member of the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers. He also served on many national committees and task forces. He was a life member of the Canadian Transportation Research Forum and was named Canadian Transportation “Man of the Year”.
In his private life. Albert and Ena were generous supporters of the University of New Brunswick having funded research positions and scholarships. He was also a generous supporter of many Community projects.
He was predeceased by his parents; one niece, Judy and her husband, Jean Oullett.
Albert is survived by his wife, Ena; sister-in-law, Jean Burch of Charlottetown; one nephew, Allan MacLean (Colleen) of Fredericton, one niece, Heather Pratt (Roderick) of Charlottetown as well as several great nieces and nephews.
At Albert’s request there will be no visitation. A Funeral Service will be held in the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Saturday, February 21st, 2015 at 1: 00 pm with a reception following.
