It is with great sadness that we, her children, announce the passing of our mother, Jeanette MacDonald. Mom passed away at home with her loving family at her side on Monday, Feb. 16, 2015.
Born in Glace Bay, the youngest of five children, she was the daughter of the late Anthony ‘Tony’ and Olga (Michalik) Swartzack.
Jeanette was a longtime and faithful member of St. John’s Church, Glace Bay. She enjoyed playing darts and cards games. She will also be remembered for her love of animals, especially her two cats.
Mom will be sadly missed by her loving children: daughters, Michelle (Joey), Glace Bay; Mary (Darcy), Calgary; Nadine (Bobby), Glace Bay; sons, Michael (Kerri), Fort St. John and Matthew (Katherine), Glace Bay; grandchildren, Michael, Richard, Brooklyn, Jasmine, Emily, Samantha and Matthew. She will also be missed by sisters, Lillian (Carvle); Margie (Jimmy); several nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Michael James ‘Buddy’ MacDonald; a daughter in infancy; and sisters, Loretta and Annie.
Visitation for Jeanette will be held at the V. J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, from 6-8 p.m. The funeral service, officiated by Fr. Norman MacPhee, will be held 10 a.m. Saturday morning, in the funeral home chapel.
In honouring Jeanette’s wishes cremation will follow and there will be a private family interment in St. Anne’s Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial donations in Jeanette’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Society, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
