It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our dear sister, aunt and friend, Margaret Aucoin (formerly of 342 Convent St.), on Saturday, Feb. 7,2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Unit 3B.
Born in Grand Mira, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Alex and Theresa (MacKinnon) MacArthur.
Margaret was a member of the former St. Agnes Parish currently the Parish of St. Leonard.
She is survived by her only sister, Sadie MacKinnon of Rochester, N.H.; nephews, Rick (Martha) MacKinnon of Seattle, Wash.; Wayne (Kathy) MacKinnon of Attleboro, Mass.; Brian (Mary Jo) MacKinnon of Coventry, Rhode Island; nieces, Terri (Bob) Moitozo of Rehoboth, Mass.; Judy (Rob) Snyder of Brookfield, Mass.; as well as several nieces and nephews on her husband Joe’s side – Francine (Donald) Fraser, Linda MacIsaac, Ann Ball, Margie Flemming, David Aucoin, Joseph Henry Aucoin, Paul Emile Aucoin, Roger Aucoin, Angelina Aucoin, Mary Ann (Aucoin) Arsenault, Henry Aucoin, Leonard Aucoin, Alphonse Aucoin, Daniel Aucoin, Mary (Muise) Brown, Kay (Muise) Morley; several grand nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews; cousins, Raymond MacNeil of Ottawa, Lawrence MacKinnon of Ottawa; godson, Father Peter MacLeod; and special friends, Mergie and Patsy Campbell, Deanna MacPherson, Joe MacDonald, Rita Desveaux and Ryan Beaton.
Margaret was employed for many years in retail at Charlie Leite’s, Grolicks, Zellers and Schwartz Clothing Store. For many years she was an avid dart player and enjoyed many good times and games at the Heather, Legion, Army, Navy, Airforce, and the KOC.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Joseph (March 1970) and her brother-in-law, John F. MacKinnon (November 1990).
The family would like to thank Dr. Greg Myatt and his nurse Janice for their many years of care as well as the wonderful staff of Palliative Care and Units 3B and 4B.

Visitation for Margaret will be held on Friday, June 12, 2015 from 2- 4 and and 7–9 pm at V. J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 10 am in the Parish of Saint Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Peter MacLeod officiating. Interment will be in St. Agnes cemetery with a reception to follow at the KOC hall, Plummer Avenue, New Waterford.
