Edward Douglas "Eddy" Gormley

GORMLEY, Edward Douglas “Eddy” – 59, Bass River. It is with heavy hearts that we announce Eddy’s passing on Monday, February 16, 2015, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born December 7, 1955, Eddy was a son of the late Clarence “Pop” and Gladys (Young) Gormley. Eddy was the beloved husband of Kelly Hartling; cherished father of Darcey (Gormley) Garrington (Kevin Garrington), Rhiannon McNair (Jamie Holmes), Josh McNair, Jason Gormley; Grampie to seven wonderful grandchildren, Michael and Sophie Garrington, Dalton Atkinson, Blake Morton and Carter, Dustin and Reese McNair; baby brother to Curtis (Kate) Gormley, Geraldine Trites, Betty (Robert) Hill, Owen Gormley (Tammy Lee Mealey-Logel) and will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews. Eddy’s career with Crossley Carpets/Tandus spanned over 41 years, and when not at work, he enjoyed camping by the shore with a cold Keith’s and a good steak. Eddy loved to dance to the beat of his own drum, and cooked an awesome breakfast. He was a jack of all trades who loved watching Star Wars and Star Trek, and grew a large collection of movies over the years. It is comforting to both family and friends that Eddy received the best possible care in his final days, and the family would like to thank the Oncology and Palliative Care teams for their care, kindness and support. Eddy brought so much love and laughter to so many over the course of his life; he was loved so very much and will be greatly missed. As Eddy was such a private man, there will be a small gathering for the family. If so desired, donations in Eddy’s memory to SPCA are welcomed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Eddy’s obituary on-line and selecting “Send A Condolence” at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
