Edna GILLESPIE
Edna Ann Gillespie (nee Mitchell), age 86, of Mankota, SK passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 15, 2015, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Gravelbourg, SK. She was born in Manor, SK on July 14, 1928.
She was predeceased by her father John Mitchell; mother Mary Mitchell; sisters Helen Margaret Mitchell and Mina McCleod; brothers Alec Mitchell and Walter Mitchell.
Edna will be missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Neil Gillespie; son Kurt (Kim) Gillespie of Mankota, SK, grandchildren Kevin (Lorena), Karson, and Kent; daughter Terry (Glenn) Person of Medicine Hat, AB, grandchildren Brett (Heather), Reid (Marit), great grandchildren Linnus and Markus; sister Mary Carlberg of Weyburn, SK.
Edna married Neil on February 17, 1953, in Saskatoon, SK. They resided on a farm south of Mankota where they raised their two children, Kurt and Terry. Edna enjoyed the farm life and all of the challenges that it brought. She was never scared of getting her hands a little dirty. Often she would be found feeding the cattle of hauling grain, and always managed to have a warm meal on the table. Aside from the farm, Edna had worked for the Credit Union and CIBC for many years. In her spare time she loved to garden, sew, and bake. Edna always appreciated when neighbours would stop by for a quick coffee or game of cards. She took pride in watching her grandchildren grow and was proud of their accomplishments.
United Church Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at 2:00 p.m., at the Mankota Agricultural Hall, Mankota, SK. Interment will take place at the Mankota Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Edna may be made to the Prairie View Health Centre Fund, Box 392, Mankota, SK S0H 2W0.
