Bryce D Goodwin

GOODWIN, Bryce D. – 92, Truro, passed away peacefully in his sleep, on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at Wynn Park Villa, Truro. Born April 17, 1922, he was a son of the late Calvin and Lillian (Matthews) Goodwin. In his early years, Bryce worked as a woodsman until he volunteered and served in the Canadian Army during the Second World War in Europe. Upon returning in 1946, he operated his own trucking business in the lumber industry. In 1949, he re-enlisted in the Canadian Forces and was posted in McGivney (New Brunswick), Debert, London (Ontario), Belgium, Germany and Ottawa (Ontario). He also served in Korea in 1953-1954 and retired from the Canadian Armed Forces as a Warrant Officer in 1970. He enjoyed the outdoor life and was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. He was a sociable person and enjoyed meeting and chatting with his many friends and neighbours. He was a founding member of Debert Legion and honourary lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He enjoyed the Veteran’s accomodations at Wynn Park Villa. Bryce was predeceased by his wife and soulmate of 66 years, Marie (Graham); son, Wayne in infancy; sister, Madeline; brother, Percy. Bryce is survived by his second wife, Anne (Shipley); daughter, Diane Neal (Wayne), Ontario; sons, Harry Goodwin (Lois), Lower Onslow; Dwight Goodwin, Vancouver; grandsons, David, Derek and Dwight Neal, Ontario; Greg, Bryce and Todd Goodwin, of Ontario, British Columbia and Nova Scotia; seven great grandchildren; sister, Wanda Comeau (Paul), Truro; brother, Terry, Truro. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where the funeral service will be held 3 p.m., Sunday, March 8, 2015, Pastor Bill Martin officiating. Reception will follow. Spring interment in Belmont Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Bryce’s memory to Colchester East Hants Health Centre Foundation or charity of choice are welcomed.
