Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Cambridge Memorial Hospital at the age of 63 surrounded by her family and friends. Loving and devoted wife to Keith, brave mother to Susan (Hayward) Boone, James (Lillian) Martin, Brian (Sara) Martin, Robert Martin (Pam Durnford), Lisa (Lenny ) Gear, Laura Martin (Kevin Pinhorn). Step-mother to Keith Hickey Jr., Bill (Trudy) Hickey. Proud Nanny to twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren. Dear and eldest sister to Garry French, Wanda (Steve) Dwyer, Wally French, Maurice (Bonita) French, Charmaine (Willy) Vanderwelle, Raymond "Rusty" (Sandra) French, Darrin (Tina) French and sister-in-law to Gerard Gamberg. Longtime friend to Rose Hussey and Kelly French. Predeceased by her parents Frederick and May French, siblings: Neil French and Joanne Gamberg. Debbie will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her extended family and friends. Debbie was the matriarch of our family and anyone that knew her could attest to her great strength, a strength that never faltered even through her battle with cancer. Debbie was always there for others and would gladly do whatever she could to help. She was someone who others would turn to for comfort, support or advice and she quickly became the confidant of many. Friends and family will be received at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews Street (519-621-1650) on Thursday, March 5, 2015 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Mass will take place the following day on Friday, March 6, 2015 at St. Gregory's RC Church, 10 St. Gregory's Drive, Cambridge at 1 pm, cremation to follow. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Hope Springs Cancer Centre or to Bell Island Breast Cancer Awareness Group in Debbie's memory. A very special thank you to friends at Hope Springs Cancer Centre and Bell Island Breast Cancer Awareness Group for all your support through Debbie's journey.
