Joyce is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and many extended family members whom she both loved and whom loved her. Joyce was a person who realized and followed her calling, dedicating her life to her large family and caring for others, working as a nurse in both Nova Scotia and in Ontario. For thirty nine years, Joyce was the owner and Administrator of Proctor Manor Nursing and Retirement home, in Hamilton Ontario, where she touched the lives of many people. She was a person of her word, if she said she was going to do something she always followed through. For over forty years Joyce was an active member of St. Giles United church and a woman of many passions, including music, she played the organ, the piano, and later attempted the ukulele, the accordion and even the mandolin. She frequently played many games of cards or scrabble with her beloved husband and family members and delighted when she won. She was quick to answer those in need and volunteered her time, sometimes formally and sometimes informally to those in need. She was a lady who was seldom idle. She delighted in knowing the latest fashion and usually surprised her granddaughters with her knowledge of the latest styles. She was an avid sports fan, and took great pleasure in “who won the game." She was a particular fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Hamilton Tiger Cats. She enjoyed and attended many a basketball or hockey game of her granddaughters. Many thanks to those who held Joyce and family in prayer, delivered food, ran errands, wrote cards, or visited during her time of illness, as she valued each and every one. Visitation was held at the Marlatt Funeral Home, in Hamilton Ontario, on Sunday, February 1, 2015. The funeral service was held at the New Vision United Church (formerly St. Giles) Hamilton on Monday Feb 2, 2015 at 11 am. A memorial and celebration of Joyce’s life will be held at Canning Baptist Church, July 25, 2015 at 2 p.m.
